Dear Diary: What to Blog… What to Blog…

Week 5

New Flash Fiction: DING!

New Merc Rules: Merc Rule 746, Merc Rule 42

It’s only been a month since I started blogging and already I’ve realized I’m gonna need something more interesting to talk about than my personal life. I mean, that’s what famous people do. And I hardly have hordes of ravenous fans emailing me, writing letters, and lining up around the block to get my ultra cool autograph. I wouldn’t even be interested in reading about my personal life. And I’m me.

Currently, the only people subscribed to my blog are related to me. And I’m only exaggerating a little.

It might be fun to write blogs about holidays, or big events, but that’s not exactly gonna give me the fodder I need to write weekly entries. So, I’m in the market for something a little more interesting. Something that will draw a crowd. Not just a crowd. The crowd. My crowd. Gotta throw out some lures for the ol’ niche audience.

But what’s my niche? Who’s my crowd?

That’d be those of you who like dark and angst-y, moody yet gritty, stupid-funny but sometimes campy, fantasy-inspired, yippie ki-yay gunslingin’-y, always-over-the-top, mohawk-and-neon-lights cyberpunk type stuff. I know that seems like a long list of very specific things smashed together. It is. And it isn’t. The folks I’m describing are those who like movies, comics, and media from the ‘80s. The same awesome stuff I enjoy.

So, in essence, I’d be writing about stuff that I like. It might be a bad thing to admit, but I don’t know the first thing about blogging. So this is going to be a learning experience. And as odd as it might be, my next few Monday entries will probably be experimental until I get the hang of how this all works.

There’ll be new artwork on the way, once I work out my blogging categories. Right now I’m thinking you can expect movie reviews, video game reviews, book reviews, some cool lists (yeah, I’m a list person), the occasional guest blog (once I track down some bloggers), and maybe even a few about writing.

For now, they’ll also be fairly short. Speaking of which. I’m fresh outta stuff to say on this topic.

Go forth and conquer,

J. D.
